Mr. Riggs’ 2016 The Bolter Shiraz has been awarded top accolades at the 10th annual Vintage Cellars Best of Awards.
The family-owned, boutique McLaren Vale winery’s winning drop beat all category winners to be named Vintage Cellar’s ‘Wine of the Year’ having already taken out the category in ‘Best Value Red Wine’.
“We’re so pleased with this win because it confirms that we’re doing what we’ve always set out to – to make high quality wines that remain drinkable and enjoyable for everyone,” said Ben Riggs, Mr. Riggs co-founder and wine maker.
More than 1300 wines were entered in the Vintage Cellars Best of Awards, which were judged on quality and flavour, as well as visual appeal and importantly, value.
“Vintage Cellars have a reputation for celebrating excellent wines from around the world, so we were thrilled to be named as a finalist alongside some impressive competition,” said Ben.
“Going on to win in our category and then Wine of the Year was a nice bit of recognition for a wine we’re really proud of.”
The 2016 The Bolter Shiraz is a reflection of Mr. Riggs’ long held philosophy of making ‘iconic wines from iconic regions’.
“This wine, to me, is the essence of McLaren Vale and exactly what a McLaren Vale shiraz should be – rich, interesting, complex and powerful, yet soft and approachable,” said Ben.
“It’s nice to have opportunities like these awards to show the world what McLaren Vale can do as a wine region.”
Competition judges wholeheartedly agreed with Ben’s take on the wine, describing the 2016 The Bolter Shiraz as “Well structured, featuring chocolate, lush berry and meaty aromas and a savoury, juicy finish.”
This latest accolade is just one of over 100 trophies and titles (and counting) awarded to Ben Riggs over his wine making career.
For those wanting to taste what all the fuss is about, this award-winning Mr. Riggs wine doesn’t come with an award-winning price tag – the 2016 The Bolter Shiraz is an exclusive wine for Vintage Cellars available for purchase from Vintage Cellars for under $25.
