We have some fantastic news to share with you, this year our 2015 Scarce Earth Shiraz has been awarded Shiraz of the Year at the 2018 Winestate Wine of the Year Awards.
The 2015 Scarce Earth Shiraz is a single vineyard Shiraz, sourced from the Burnt Block in my Piebald Gully vineyard in Clarendon. The Burnt Block is so named after the vineyard was planted in 1998 then later that year lightning struck on the boundary, racing through and wiping out the majority of the plantings. The following year it was re-planted and trained as V.S.P. with foliage wires 3m rows x 2m vines. The area ripens up to two weeks later than the rest of McLaren Vale district and receives on average 30% more rainfall. Although a cooler sub region it still enjoys the benefits of a Mediterranean climate.
