Inky, deep, dark and purple in the glass, very impressive colour for a five-year-old wine. A big lift of sweet and cedary (expensive) oak then the dark fruit aromas kick in: mulberry, blood plum and dark chocolate, mint and spice. Opulently flavoured, plums, chocolate, graphite, dates, cedar and vanilla. The tannins are firm, granular and structured and the acidity does its best to keep the decadent fruit in check and provide some savouriness and backbone. One for the cellar.
